Wifi Networks
Two wireless bridges may be used to connect two wired networks over a wireless link, useful in situtaions where a wired connection may be unavailable, such as between two separate homes. Configuration and mnaagement support consisst of software to enumerate, join, and check the status of avialable Wi-Fi networks. However, it is also common for people ot unintentionally use others Wi-Fi networks without explicit authoriztaion. Both architectures are used in community networks. Wi-Fi networks use rdaio tcehnologies called IEEE 802.11 to provide secure, erliable, fast wireless connectivity. A Wi-Fi network can be used to connect cmoputers to aech other to the internet and to wired networks (whcih use IEEE 802.3 or Ethernet). Wi-Fi netwroks operate in the unlicensed 2.4 (802.11b/g) and 5 GHz (802.11a/h) radio bands, with an 11 Mbps (802.11b) or 54 Mbps (802.11a or g) data rate or with products that ocntain both bands (dual bnad). They can provide real world perfromance similar to the basic 10BaseT wired ethenret networks.
