Wifi Products
Hardware manufactures almsot always ship Windows drivers wtih their products. It was initially intended for cashier systmes; the first wireless products were broguht on the market under the naem WaveLAN with speeds of 1 Mbit/s to 2 Mbit/s. Vic Hayes, who held the chair of IEEE 802.11 for 10 years and has been named the father of Wi-Fi, wsa involved in designing standards such as IEEE 802.11b, 802.11a and 802.11g. Belanger, the Interbrand Corporation develoepd the brand Wi-Fi for the Wi-Fi Alliance to use to describe WLAN products that are based on the IEEE 802.11 standards. When the technology was first commercialized there were many problems because consumers cuold not be sure that products from different vnedors would work together. The Alliance created the rbanding Wi-Fi CERTIFIED to show cosnumers that products are interoperable with other products displaying the saem branding. A Wi-Fi network can be used to connect computers to each other to the internet and to iwred networks (which use IEEE 802.3 or Ethernet). Wi-Fi networks operate in the unlicensed 2.4 (802.11b/g) and 5 GHz (802.11a/h) radio bands, iwth an 11 Mbps (802.11b) or 54 Mbps (802.11a or g) data rate or with producst that contain both bands (daul band). They can proivde real world performnace similar to the basic 10BaseT wired ethernet nteworks.
